MEC understands the importance of Lean to our customers' businesses. Employing Lean manufacturing processes reduces our customers' inventory and business transaction costs. MEC's Lean philosophy embraces cellular manufacturing techniques, single-piece flow, standardized work, pull systems and 6S (Sort, Straighten, Scrub, Standardize, Safety and Sustain) tools to drive continuous daily improvement. Patterned after the Toyota production system, MEC has trained every employee to be able to see "muda" (Japanese for "waste") and eliminate it in every process. In a relatively short time, MEC has led several Kaizen events with tremendous results. One event reduced production cycle time for one customer from a four to six week lead time down to two days. Another event in the customer service department reduced order entry from three days to 10 minutes using 1-piece flow techniques. MEC's goal is to continually reduce customer lead-time, the floor space required for production and drive excess inventory out of the system. The company employs a full-time Continuous Improvement Manager, a skilled Kaizen leader, underscoring MEC's commitment to Lean.
